Candidate Endorsements
Pennsylvania Voters for Animals (PAVFA) is a nonpartisan 501(c)(4) organization dedicated to advocating for stronger animal protection laws across the Commonwealth and empowering Pennsylvanians to use their voices and their votes on behalf of animals.
PAVFA conducted its first endorsement cycle in 2026, establishing a process for future election years. We evaluated candidates for the Pennsylvania General Assembly based on their questionnaire responses, their alignment with our mission and key initiatives, and, when applicable, their legislative record or prior engagement on animal‑protection issues.
Note: questionnaire submission was required for endorsement consideration.
Our goal is to highlight candidates who are genuinely committed to improving the lives of animals in Pennsylvania.

- Only candidates who submitted PAVFA’s 2026 PA General Assembly Questionnaire were eligible for endorsement consideration.
PAVFA uses a holistic, mission‑aligned evaluation process that considers multiple indicators of a candidate’s commitment to humane, evidence‑based animal protection policy. Our review includes:
- Questionnaire responses and commitment to strengthening Pennsylvania’s animal protection laws, and additional factors such as viability and demonstrated alignment with animal protection reforms.
- Voting record on animal protection and anti‑cruelty legislation (when applicable)
- Leadership or meaningful engagement on animal protection issues, whether through past actions or demonstrated readiness to advance humane policy.
- Only candidates who submitted PAVFA’s 2026 PA General Assembly Questionnaire were eligible for endorsement consideration.
- What an Endorsement Means
Endorsements highlight credible, mission‑aligned candidates who will advocate for stronger animal protection laws in Pennsylvania.
A candidate receives an endorsement if they demonstrate:
- A strong questionnaire reflecting informed policy positions, readiness to support meaningful reforms, and alignment with PAVFA’s mission
- Meaningful leadership or engagement on animal protection issues
- A strong or improving voting record on animal protection legislation (if applicable)
- Sponsorship or co‑sponsorship of priority humane bills (if applicable)
- Why PAVFA May Issue “No endorsement”
- A district may show “No endorsement” when:
- No candidate in that district submitted a questionnaire, making endorsement evaluation impossible
- A candidate provides a negative or non‑viable questionnaire response, indicating insufficient alignment with humane, evidence‑based animal protection policy
- No candidate demonstrates adequate alignment with PAVFA’s mission, even if no negative indicators are present
This ensures endorsements remain consistent, transparent, and grounded in PAVFA’s mission.

All questionnaire responses are confidential and used only for internal evaluation. Individual responses are not publicly disclosed.
